Stay clear of the spam filter!

5 Handy Hints for Email Marketing!

It sounds obvious but every company should send regular email newletters.

Newsletters are an excellent way to keep in touch with your customers and prospects.

Their cost efficiency, compared to direct mail and telephone calls means they should be an integral part of your marketing program.

So here are 5 top tips for creating successful emails that can form part of any marketing campaign.

The really important idea to bear in mind is any form of email marketing needs to be planned and performed regularly. There’s not point in sending out two newsletters, then abandoning the rest. What does that say about your company?

Remember your email newsletter will generate repeat business from existing customers and create sales opportunities from new ones.

  1. Enhance customer relationships - everyone likes to be in the loop

Ever heard of the business rule; you need to “touch” a prospect on average seven 7 times before they become really interested in you as a supplier. Email marketing offers an efficient, fast method for spreading the word about your company and services you provide.  Keep the tone of your messages light and you won't scare away customers!

  2. Stay Legal – don’t get blacklisted as a spammer!

From avoiding the favourite phrases of notorious spam-related email, to ensuring that your recipients can unsubscribe whenever they wish, it's important to respect the opt-in nature of the newsletter.  If you'd like to know why someone unsubscribes, why not add an (optional) feedback form to ask for details.  You may get some useful advice.

  3. Manage your bouncebacks – automatically exclude them on future emails

Not everyone keeps their email address forever!  You might find many potential recipients have changed or deleted their accounts over time, so keep your list up to date by removing "bounced back" email addresses.

  4. Spam check email content – increase your chances of getting through

Use a sample of the free spam-checking tools available online to check your content for the kind of text that will relegate your content to the spam folder!  These tools will tell you  how you can optimise your template's code (and the content) to increase the chances of it being read by a human and not a spam filter!

  5. Monitor campaign results – watch and learn to improve each time

Marketing is forever a "work in progress".  Be vigilant for feedback from your customers and note which newsletters contain popular themes and styles for future use or improvement.

Bear in mind timing issues such as school and bank holidays when planning your campaigns and be aware of the latest trends in your industry.  Your customers will thank you if they find out about the latest security patch or online resource from your newsletter.
